The Autumn Inferno® Cotoneaster is a striking, low-maintenance ornamental shrub celebrated for its brilliant fall color and year-round beauty. Through the growing season, it features glossy, dark green leaves that transform into vivid shades of fiery red and orange in autumn — truly living up to its name.
This upright, compact variety typically reaches about 5–6 feet tall and 4-5 feet wide, making it perfect for hedges, foundation plantings, or mixed borders. In spring, it produces small white blooms that attract pollinators, followed by bright red berries in fall and winter that provide food for birds and add cheerful seasonal color.
Hardy in zones 4–7, Autumn Inferno® thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. Once established, it is drought tolerant and easy to care for, with excellent resistance to common cotoneaster diseases. A versatile, four-season shrub that brings texture, color, and wildlife interest to any landscape.
Why Bare Root
The benefits of buying and planting bare root trees are extensive. Bare root trees are more cost effective and will typically reach their mature size quicker. They are easier to manage and plant due to not being established within a medium in a container. Bare root shrubs and trees will grow faster since they have 200% more root mass than that of trees purchased in a container or B&B. The plants are also not having to go through the adjustment period of acclimating to different soil conditions since they are not coming in a medium. For more information, please see CSU Extension Service’s “The Science of Planting Trees.”
Pickup for all Bare Root Plants will take place at The Shire at Old Ranch (3860 Old Ranch Rd., Colorado Springs, CO 80908) March 28th and 29th from 9:00am-5:00pm.
