The Champlain rose is a dependable, cold-hardy shrub rose celebrated for its brilliant clusters of deep crimson-red blooms that appear continuously from late spring through frost. Each semi-double flower holds its rich color beautifully, even in heat, and contrasts strikingly with the dark green, glossy foliage.
This compact, bushy shrub typically grows 3 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide, making it an excellent choice for borders, mass plantings, or containers. It’s known for its exceptional repeat bloom and natural resistance to black spot and powdery mildew, ensuring a long season of vibrant color with minimal care.
Hardy in zones 3–7, Champlain thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. It’s winter-hardy, self-cleaning, and low-maintenance, perfect for gardeners seeking consistent performance and vivid color. A standout among hardy shrub roses, Champlain delivers classic red beauty and reliable blooms year after year.
Why Bare Root
The benefits of buying and planting bare root trees are extensive. Bare root trees are more cost effective and will typically reach their mature size quicker. They are easier to manage and plant due to not being established within a medium in a container. Bare root shrubs and trees will grow faster since they have 200% more root mass than that of trees purchased in a container or B&B. The plants are also not having to go through the adjustment period of acclimating to different soil conditions since they are not coming in a medium. For more information, please see CSU Extension Service’s “The Science of Planting Trees.”
Pickup for all Bare Root Plants will take place at The Shire at Old Ranch (3860 Old Ranch Rd., Colorado Springs, CO 80908) on March 28th and 29th from 9:00am-5:00pm.
