The ‘Regent’ Serviceberry is a compact, hardy shrub prized for its four-season beauty and delicious, edible berries. In early spring, it bursts into bloom with showy clusters of white flowers, followed by blue-purple berries in early summer that are sweet, juicy, and excellent for fresh eating, baking, or making jams and jellies.
This neat, rounded shrub grows to about 4–6 feet tall and 4-8 feet wide, making it perfect for small landscapes, hedges, or wildlife gardens. Its green summer foliage turns brilliant orange and red in fall, and in winter, the smooth gray bark adds subtle texture and interest.
Extremely cold-hardy in zones 2–7, ‘Regent’ thrives in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil, tolerating a range of soil types including clay. It’s low-maintenance, drought-tolerant once established, and attracts birds and pollinators. A standout native shrub that combines beauty, resilience, and productivity year after year.
Why Bare Root
The benefits of buying and planting bare root trees are extensive. Bare root trees are more cost effective and will typically reach their mature size quicker. They are easier to manage and plant due to not being established within a medium in a container. Bare root shrubs and trees will grow faster since they have 200% more root mass than that of trees purchased in a container or B&B. The plants are also not having to go through the adjustment period of acclimating to different soil conditions since they are not coming in a medium. For more information, please see CSU Extension Service’s “The Science of Planting Trees.”
Pickup for all Bare Root Plants will take place at The Shire at Old Ranch (3860 Old Ranch Rd., Colorado Springs, CO 80908) March 28th and 29th from 9:00am-5:00pm.
